Miranda Reaches 1,000-Point Milestone in Regular Season Finale
FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Vincent Miranda became the 46th player in Taylor men's basketball history to score at least 1,000 points in a career for the Trojans, and the third in TU's last eight games, but the senior's accomplishment was soured by an 83-78 loss at RV Saint Francis.
Miranda followed teammates Jason Hubbard and CJ Penha in joining the exclusive list, scoring 14 points in the contest to bump his career total to 1,003 in four years of work with the Purple and Gold. The senior knocked in four triples in the contest, with his third of the game coming at the 11:37 mark of the second half and putting Miranda squarely at 1,000.
Penha also made a little bit of history in Saturday's loss, sinking 11-of-17 shots for 27 points and his eighth-straight game of at least 20 points for the Trojans. The eight-game stretch marks TU's longest in over a decade, surpassing Hubbard's seven-game stretch earlier this season. Penha added four three-pointers, seven rebounds and three assists in the contest and moved to within 12 points of 40th on Taylor's all-time scoring charts.
Hubbard was also active, moving just two double-doubles shy of the Crossroads League lead with his ninth of the season. Hubbard finished with 17 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks against the Cougars (22-7, 9-7 CL).
Gavin Yoon also excelled, posting 11 points and a career-high seven rebounds in his first collegiate start.
Those performances were not enough for TU however, as the Trojan bench contributed just five points and Taylor was outscored by 10 in the paint, 16 at the charity stipe and nine off turnovers.
Taylor sank 13-of-28 looks from downtown but could not find enough stops against Saint Francis, as the hosts made 12-of-15 two-point attempts over the final 20 minutes.
TU (11-13, 5-11 CL) will be the eighth seed in the upcoming Crossroads League Tournament and will play at No. 1 and top-seeded Indiana Wesleyan (28-1, 15-1 CL) in the quarterfinals on Wednesday at 7:00 pm.
