Men's Track & Field Takes Fourth at CL Championships
GOSHEN, Ind. – The Taylor men's track and field team claimed fourth place at the 2015 Crossroads League Championships which concluded Saturday.
Sophomore Matt Hall was fantastic for the Trojans with a pair of victories in the 1,500-meter and the 5,000-meter. Hall clocked a 3:58.04 to win the 1,500-meter and established a new track record in the the 5,000-meter with a winning time of 15:01.22.
Taylor also took two of the top three spots in the 110-meter hurdles with Brandan Wilchcombe hitting the NAIA 'B' standard National Championship qualifying mark en route to a second place finsih at 14.47. Gage Minniear was just behind Wilchcombe, crossing the line at 15.22 to finish in third.
Minniear notched a second place finish in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 56.84 while Wilchcombe added a fourth place finish (57.84) and Noah Clayton finished fifth (59.13) for TU.
The Trojans took three of the top seven spots in the steeplechase led by Joseph Beamish (9:47.30). Scott King (9:54.18) took fifth for the Trojans while Zach Warner finished seventh at 9:55.10.
Kenny Higgins added some points to the TU total with a third place finish in the hammer throw with a toss of 47.95 meters.
In the 400-meter the Trojans' Kyle Shelton clocked a time of 50.46 to earn a seventh place finish while Shalk Van Niekerk collected eighth in the 800-meter with a time of 2:01.15.
Stephen Cho also ran well in the 5,000-meter, finishing sixth with a time of 15:36.72.
Taylor finished the Crosssroads League Championships with 100 points while Marian edged Bethel 179.50 to 177 to claim the team title.
The Trojans will compete in one more regular season event at the North Central Invitational on May 7-8 before several TU athletes will begin preparations for the NAIA National Championships.
