Hesting Highlights Trojans at Indiana Tech Invite
FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Taylor men's track and field team competed at the Indiana Tech Invitational on Saturday. Despite constant rain and wet conditions, the Trojans performed well against competitive teams.
Liam Hesting had a successful day for the Purple and Gold, claiming three new outdoor track career-best marks, two TU top-10 finishes and an NAIA A-standard. The sophomore landed an automatic qualifying standard in the hammer throw and also broke the TU program record. Hesting recorded a career-best mark of 53.00-meters and finished fourth in the event. Hesting also placed sixth in the shot put with a career-best launch of 14.55-meters, logging the ninth-best throw in Taylor history. The thrower from Columbia City, Indiana then threw the discus 44.99-meters, a new personal-best and sixth place overall.
Two Trojans recorded top-10 finishes in the long jump, as Jake Thompson claimed sixth place with a leap of 6.41-meters and Caleb Fox finished ninth, jumping 6.09-meters
Caleb Schutte raced the 100-meter dash, finishing in 11th place and recording a time of 10.96.
A crew of distance runners competed in the 5,000-meters. Nathan Holst finished in ninth place (16:07.51), Nathan Streitmatter claimed 11th place (16:12.71), Ben Eiffert ended in 12th place (16:17.49), Zane Callison crossed in 14th place (16:20.52) and Blake Montgomery finished 17th (16:31.99)
In the 800-meters, Nathan Brainer clocked a time of 2:01.22 and James Bates finished in 2:03.59.
Adam Nichols and Jake Thompson cleared a height of 1.84-meters in the high jump, tying for 12th place overall.
Justin Foster raced the 200-meters and 400-meters, clocking times of 24.57 and 53.55 respectively.
The Taylor men will return to action on Friday April 16 for the two-day Little State Track and Field Championships hosted by Indiana Wesleyan in Marion, IN.
