Trojans Enjoy Strong Start at Crossroads League Champioinships
MARION, Ind. – The Taylor women's track and field team got off to a solid start on day one of the Crossroads League Championships at Indiana Wesleyan on Thursday.
For the second straight season the Taylor 4x800 relay team claimed the Crossroads League title in the event as the TU team of Margie Crosby, Jane Hawks, Sarina Oleson, and Rachel Blagg posted a season-best time of 9:21.17. The mark also hit the A standard for the NAIA National Championships.
Taylor also got a victory from freshman Plenseh-Tay Sakeuh who claimed the Crossroads League title in the long jump with a mark of 5.38 meters. Sakeuh also raced her way into Friday's finals in the 110-meter hurdles and the 100-meter dash.
The Trojans took three of the top five spots in the 10,000-meter run with junior Hannah Schroder leading the way by finishing second with a time of 38:30.58. Freshman Michelle Franch finished third at 38:36.33 followed by senior Anissa Richards in fifth at 39:38.73.
Freshman Brianna Jordahl added three points for Taylor with a seventh place finish in the discus with a mark of 37.05 meters and an eighth place finish in the shot put with a mark of 10.74 meters.
The Trojans finished day one in fourth place in the team standings with 42.5 points. Bethel holds a narrow lead in the team standings with 55.75 points followed by Indiana Wesleyan with 54.5 and Marion with 48.
The final day of competition at the Crossroads League Championships will begin with field events at 11:00 am while the running events will start at 11:30 am.
