Schroder Ends Collegiate Career as 10k All-American

GULF SHORES, Ala. – The Taylor women's track and field team showed up to compete on the first day of the 2021 NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships, as Taylor collected one All-American award and qualified for finals in two events.
Action began with the 4x800-meter relay trials. TU's squad of Abbey Brennan, Corinne O'Leary, Emily Johnson and Brooke Studnicki clocked a season-best time of 9:17.08. The Trojans won their heat, therefore will automatically advance to finals on Thursday.
Next on the track was the 3,000-meter steeplechase trials. Taylor's steeplechasers have had an impressive year and all three women clinched spots in the finals. Giovanna Domene finished with a time of 11:18.34. VanderWall ended close behind, clocking a time of 11:20.22. Gamble, grabbing the last qualifying spot of the event, raced to a time of 11:27.17. The trio will compete in the finals on Friday.
In the long jump, freshman Patience Sakeuh logged a mark of 5.39-meters and finished in 19th place.
The final event of the night was the 10,000-meter finals under the lights, and Livy Schroder shined as she capped off her collegiate career in style. Schroder battled in a tight pack between third and eighth place the majority of the 25 laps, ending in sixth place overall. The senior recorded a season-best time of 36:23.72 and claimed All-American honors.
The Taylor women will have seven individuals compete in five events on Thursday, with Sakeuh and Audrey Altum starting off the day in the 100-meter hurdle prelims at 4:00pm (ET). Brennan and Studnicki will compete in the 800-meter prelims at 4:30pm, Sakeuh will follow at 5:20pm for the 100-meter dash prelims. TU's 4x800-meter relay team is set to race finals at 8:10pm and Sarah Harden will conclude the day under the lights in the 5,000-meter prelims at 8:45pm.
