Taylor Athletics Rates Among NAIA's Finest in Academics

UPLAND, Ind. – The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics recently announced its academic awards for the 2021-2022 year, with Taylor having each of its varsity athletic teams earn NAIA Scholar-Team honors for a 10th-straight year for posting combined grade-point averages of 3.0 and above on a 4.0 scale.
Taylor was one of only three institutions from the NAIA with at least 18 Scholar-Teams to place each of their offered varsity sports on the list and ranked near the top of the nation once again in a host of GPA benchmarks.
Among TU's 18 NAIA Scholar-Teams, 16 of those programs posted GPAs of at least 3.25 and 12 teams came in at 3.50 and above. The Trojans led the entire NAIA for a second-straight year with 12 teams above the 3.50 threshold.
Taylor was one of seven colleges to have three of its teams ranked among the top-80 overall team GPAs, and had six teams rank among the top-170 overall team GPAs.
Going even further, Taylor had 12 of its teams end inside the top-25 team GPAs for their respective sport and had eight teams finish among the top-10 in their sport. In addition to the national rankings, the Trojans had 13 of their 18 teams finish among the top-three team GPAs in their league, with women's soccer, women's basketball, men's indoor track and men's outdoor track topping their league.
The sport of women's soccer posted the best team GPA of all NAIA women's soccer programs and ranked 19th overall with a mark of 3.79, while competitive cheer (3.63) and men's outdoor track (3.59) ranked second in their respective sport. Other top finishers among their own sport included men's indoor track (3.59) and football (3.29) ranking third, men's cross country (3.71) ending fourth, women's basketball (3.72) finishing sixth and lacrosse (3.01) ending 10th.
In addition to the Scholar-Team awards, the NAIA also officially released its list of NAIA Scholar-Athlete award winners from the 2021-2022 year, with Taylor picking up 131 honors. The Scholar-Athlete award is given to student-athletes who had reached sophomore status academically by the conclusion of the spring semester with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 and above.
