Bio
The 2026 season marks Kyle Gould’s 22nd year as the head coach of the Taylor University baseball program and his ninth full year as Taylor’s director of intercollegiate athletics.
Since taking over the reins of the baseball program in 2005, Gould has amassed a record of 737-378 (.661) and has coached 89 first-team all-conference athletes over 21 seasons. Gould has also mentored nine Crossroads League Players of the Year and 10 Crossroads League Pitchers of the Year, while seeing at least one player receive the honor in 10 straight seasons from 2009 to 2018. In addition, four of Gould’s players have advanced to play professional baseball.
Gould has led the Trojans to Crossroads League Championships in 11 of his 21 previous years as head coach of the Trojans, claiming five-straight league titles from 2009 through 2013, with regular season crowns in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2016, 2023, 2024 and 2025 to go with tournament championships in 2006, 2009, 2013, 2016, 2022, 2024 and 2025. Along with the league titles, Gould has been named the Crossroads League Coach of the Year seven times (2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2016, 2023, 2024 and 2025).
In all, Gould has helped TU to the 15 highest single-season win totals in school history, including a program record of 47 victories achieved during the 2025 campaign. Gould also became the program’s all-time winningest coach in 2018.
In 2006 Gould led the Trojans to what was then a school-record 33 wins, a conference tournament championship and a berth in the NAIA regional tournament. Taylor also received national attention, reaching as high as No. 22 in the NAIA national rankings for the first time in the program’s history.
Three years later, the Trojans set another new wins-record with a 38-19 mark. The 2009 Trojans won the conference tournament championship and made program history with an automatic bid to the NAIA National Championship Opening Round, its first national tournament appearance since 1969.
The following season led to the first outright Crossroads League Championship in school history, tying the school record for wins in a season (38-17) and earning a return trip to the NAIA National Tournament.
The 2011 season started with a pre-season ranking of No. 22 and saw a second-consecutive CL Championship (35-14) and the longest winning streak in the NAIA at 24-consecutive wins.
In 2012 Gould directed the Trojans to their third-straight regular season conference championship and the highest ranking in school history at No. 17 in the NAIA Top -25 Poll. The Trojans ended the year with a 38-20 record and advanced into the NAIA National Tournament.
Taylor continued its run of dominance throughout the 2013 season, winning the final 15 games of the regular season and taking 30-of-35 games to end the year with an overall mark of 35-14. The season was highlighted by 19 comeback victories, resulting in the fourth NAIA National Tournament appearance in five seasons for Taylor, where TU secured a win at nationals for the fourth time in a five-year span.
Gould guided the Trojans back to another championship and 40 victories in 2016, as the Trojans finished 40-18 and as the Crossroads League regular season and tournament champions. TU defeated three top-25 teams, made its fifth appearance in the NAIA National Tournament Opening Round and ranked seventh among all baseball programs in the NAIA with a 3.33 team grade-point average.
In 2018, Gould broke the program record for wins in a season once again by leading TU to a 44-win campaign and another trip to the NAIA National Tournament. The team was the fastest to 20, 30, and 40 wins in program history while taking down three NAIA Top-25 opponents along the way. The Trojans were strong on and off the diamond as they completed the season second in the NAIA with a 3.37 team GPA.
A 38-18 mark in 2019 capped off the winningest four-year stretch in program history with 157 victories. The team notched its 1,400th win in program history, while Gould hit his 500th career win as a head coach. The win total was the third-most in school history, which helped the squad rank inside the NAIA Top-25, climbing as high as No. 20 for the best rating since 2012.
Gould and the Trojans notched a 13-5 record in 2020, before having the remainder of the season cancelled due to COVID-19. The TU squad began the year on fire, winning its first seven games, including a pair of top-25 triumphs. In 2021, the Trojans reached the 17th spot in the national rankings for the NAIA, matching their program-record.
In 2022, Gould led the Trojans to yet another standout season, winning the Crossroads League Tournament Championship for the first time since 2016. Along the way, Taylor achieved its 1,500th all-time program win, while Gould notched his 600th career win. After taking the CL crown, the Trojans moved on to host the Opening Round of the National Tournament for just the second time in program-history. Three of Gould’s players took home CL Player-of-the-Year awards, while four were named First-Team All-Crossroads League performers. Off the field, Gould led his team to an NAIA-leading four CoSIDA Academic All-District awards and two CoSIDA Academic All-American honors.
The 2023 season was perhaps the best the Trojan baseball program has seen in its history. Under Gould’s direction, the team went 42-17 while amassing 30 wins in Crossroads League play, a program record. The team won the NAIA Opening Round Championship for the first time in its history, and it built upon that success in the NAIA World Series by adding two more victories to finish fifth in the nation, also a program-best. It was just the second time the team had advanced to the World Series (1969). The 2023 team also set program records for runs scored and home runs hit.
2024 marked another historic season for Gould, whose team went 42-17, made the NAIA Opening Round and matched its record-30 league wins from the season prior. Gould earned CL Coach of the Year honors for a second consecutive season as the Trojans swept the Crossroads League Player and Pitcher of the Year awards. Prior to conference play, TU defeated No. 1-ranked Southeastern, making it the first time in program history the Trojans took down a No. 1 opponent. That win was one of two against ranked opponents on the year, a season in which TU was ranked as high as No. 9 in the national polls.
The 2025 season featured historic moments under Gould, who eclipsed 700 career wins and earned CL Coach of the Year for a third straight season. TU secured its best regular season record (41-8), highest win total (47) and highest in-season ranking (No. 9) ever. The Trojans completed a three-peat as CL regular season champion, clinched back-to-back CL Tournament Championships and earned a No. 1 seed in the NAIA Opening Round for the first time in program history – their fourth straight year as opening round host. TU also swept CL Player, Pitcher and Coach of the Year honors for the second consecutive year and landed three CSC Academic All-Americans and two NAIA All-Americans.
Gould has made multiple appearances as a guest speaker at the Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association. In 2008 he spoke on the topic of Effective Indoor Practice Planning, followed by Catching Drills for the Complete Catcher in 2009 and 2012.
In addition to the accomplishments on the diamond, Gould has developed a highly successful camps program at Taylor, growing the TU Baseball Camps to over 100 participants at each of three sessions in January and February.
A 2002 Taylor graduate, Gould was an all-conference catcher for the Trojans and started all four years on the baseball team, winning the then-MCC Tournament Championship in 1999.
Gould and his wife, Kate, live in Fort Wayne with their daughter, Penelope, and son, Henry.
