Hockett and Shilts Earn MSFA Player-of-the-Week Honors
UPLAND, Ind. – Taylor's Jacob Hockett and Zane Shilts were named Mid-States Football Association Mideast League Players of the Week on Monday after their roles in TU's 24-21 victory over Concordia on Saturday, October 15.
Hockett was named the MSFA Mideast League Defensive Player of the Week after turning in a career-high 21 tackles in the win. Hockett logged 12 solo stops from his linebacker position and added one sack, two tackles for negative yardage, one forced fumble and one game-saving pass breakup in the end zone on Concordia's final offensive play of the afternoon to preserve the three-point lead for the Trojans.
Shilts remained perfect on the season en route to being named the MSFA Mideast League Special Teams Player of the Week. Shilts drilled all three of his point-after attempts in the contest and then connected from 29-yards out for the eventual game-winning field goal.
The honor was the first for Hockett in his career and the third for Shilts, with two of those honors coming during the current campaign.
Taylor has now garnered six MSFA weekly awards this season with 18 total MSFA or Crossroads League Player-of-the-Week nods this fall.
The Trojans (4-3, 2-1 MSFA) will return to action on Saturday, October 22 at 1:00 pm when they host Madonna (0-8, 0-4 MSFA) on Homecoming.
