Offense Struggles in Regular Season Finale Loss at Mount Vernon Nazarene
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio – The Trojans offense struggled to a season-low 59 points on the road against Mount Vernon Nazarene (17-11, 9-9 CL) in the regular season finale en route to a 72-59 loss.
Taylor's offense failed to get out of first gear in the opening half, shooting under 40 percent from beyond the arc. The 26 first half points are the fewest in any half this season for the Trojans.
Izaiah Day kept TU in the game with an offensive burst late in the half as he led all scorers with 11 including a trio from beyond the arc.
The Cougars came out firing after the break scoring on their first three possessions to push the lead to 11 and force a TU timeout after three possessions.
Taylor could not stop the hot shooting of Mount Vernon Nazarene in the second half with the Cougars hitting 50 percent of their three-pointers and pushing the advantage out to a game-high 19 points with just under eight minutes remaining.
Day led the Purple and Gray with 14 points, eight rebounds and three assists. TJ Davidson was solid off the bench with seven points and three assists.
The Trojans shot under 40 percent from the field and under 30 percent from three-point land while getting outrebounded 37-33 in the agonizing defeat.
Taylor (19-9, 11-7 CL) begins postseason play on Wednesday, February 25th in the Crossroads League Tournament on the road against No. 11 Bethel (22-6, 12-6 CL) with tip time to be announced.
