INDIANAPOLIS – Taylor's Trey Turner has been named the Crossroads League Golfer of the Week following his victory at the Battle on Beale Street in Memphis last week.
The sophomore from Bedford, Indiana entered the final round tied with teammate Alec Dutkowski for the individual lead after an opening round 73 (+1) and he played steady golf in difficult conditions on the TPC Southwind Course, home of the PGA Tour's Fedex St. Jude Classic. Turner made back-to-back birdies on the par-3 fourth hole and the par-5 fifth hole and added birdies on the par-3 14th and the par-5 17th to shot a final round 76 and fight off a charge from the University of the Cumberlands Florian Loutre who finished one shot behind after a final round 75.
Turner is the first Taylor golfer to earn Crossroads League golfer of the week honors since Nick Waskom earned the honor on April 26, 2015.
Turner and the 23rd-ranked Trojans are back in action this today and tomorrow at the Southeastern Kentucky Invitational at Crooked Creek Golf Club in London, Kentucky.
