Dutkowski, Trojans Take Titles at Purgatory Intercollegiate
NOBLESVILLE, Ind. – Alec Dutkowski claimed the first tournament title of his collegiate career to lead the 21st-ranked Taylor men's golf team to a dominant victory at the Purgatory Intercollegiate on Saturday.
Dutkowski followed Friday's stellar round of 70 with a 74 on Saturday to finish at even par 144 and edge teammate Mitch Lamping by one shot at the top of the leaderboard.
The Taylor A team carded a final round tally of 292 with Lamping leading the way on Saturday with a 71, the only under par round of the day. Senior Ian Rinken added a 73 with Trey Turner and Dutkowski adding 74's. Junior Nick Waskom carded a 76 as TU's drop score.
The Trojans' two-round total of 589 (297-292) was 23 shots clear of second place.
The Taylor B team made it a clean sweep for TU at the top of the leaderboard as the squad held off final round charges from Wheaton and Parkland College to take second place with a final round 305. Senior Nathan Edwards tallied a final round 73 to pace the squad with sophomore Jeremy Ray adding a 75 followed by and 78 from Nate Morris and a 79 from Jordan Hall. Scottie Marston shot 80 as TU's drop score.
Senior Seth Neal and junior Josh Stimmel each fired 79's on Saturday as individuals while freshman Noah Miller tallied an 86 in the final round.
Trojan golfers claimed five of the top seven spots in the individual standings at the conclusion of play.
The victory was TU's fourth of the 2016-17 season and the tenth tournament title since the beginning of the 2015-2016 season.
Taylor will return to action this coming weekend when the Trojans travel to TPC Deere Run, the site of the 2017 NAIA National Championship, for the TPC Deere Run Invitational.
