Trojans, Dutkowski Win TPC Deere Run Invitational
SILVIS, Ill. – Junior Alec Dutkowski notched his sixth collegiate victory while leading the 13th-ranked Taylor men's golf team to a dominant victory at the TPC Deere Run Invitational on Saturday.
Dutkowski tallied a final round score of even par 71 on the 6,603-yard layout of TPC Deere Run as the Trojans pulled away from a loaded field for a ten-shot victory. Dutkowski finished the tournament at 3-under par 139 (68-71) to tie for tournament medalist honors and claim his third tournament title of the 2017-18 season.
The Trojans entered the final round with a three shot lead over No. 11 Northwestern Ohio and TU extended its lead on Saturday as the Trojans fired the second-lowest team score of the day in the 23-team field. In addition to Dutkowski's 71 the Trojans also counted a 74 from senior Mitch Lamping, a 76 from junior Jeremy Ray, and a pair of 77's from seniors Trey Turner and Nick Waskom for a team score of 298 (+14) in cold and extremely windy conditions.
Taylor finished with a two-day total of 576 (+8) while No. 10 Northwestern Ohio finished second at 586 (+18). Iowa Western Community College finished in third at 587 (+19) while #RV Lindsey Wilson was fourth at 591 (+25). The Trojans also finished well ahead of No. 15 William Woods (598, +30) and No. 20 Lawrence Tech (618, +50).
Senior Mitch Lamping continued his stellar play with a tie for fourth place with a two-day total of 1-over par 143 (69-74). Turner added a tie for 12th place at 3-over par 145 (68-77) while Ray was tied for 25th at 149 (73-76). Senior Nick Waskom (75-77) and sophomore Nate Morris (73-79), who competed as an individual, tied for 38th in the 120-person field at 152.
The Trojans return to action on Monday, April 10th when the Trojans will attempt to defend their title at the Wildcat Cup held at Brickyard Crossing Golf Course in Indianapolis.
