AUSTIN, Texas – Senior defender Rocky Byrd of the Taylor men's soccer team was recently named to the Academic All-America Second-Team, which is selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Byrd became the 47th Academic All-American in school history and is the fourth Taylor men's soccer player to receive the prestigious recognition, joining 2014 honoree Tim Daniels and 2011 honorees Tyler Beachler and Daniel Miller.
Byrd is from Danville, Indiana where he attended Covenant Christian High School. As a finance major at Taylor, Byrd boasted a team-high 3.87 GPA. He was named a NAIA Scholar Athlete a season ago, and was also named to the Academic All-Crossroads League team. Over his four years as an outside defender for TU, Byrd recorded two goals and two assists while appearing in 60 matches.
Byrd is Taylor's first Academic All-America award winner of the 2015-16 school year after the Trojans led the NAIA with 12 awards winners last year, which matched Embry-Riddle for the highest among any NAIA, Canadian or two-year institution.
