UPLAND, Ind. – The College Sports Communicators (CSC), formerly CoSIDA, announced the 2022 Academic All-American teams for each of the three NCAA divisions, and the NAIA, on which senior Sawyer Watterson was honored as a Second-Team selection.
After receiving his second CSC Academic All-District award, Watterson has now garnered his first Academic All-American award. The senior captain's All-American nod is the sixth in program history, following Quintain Partain's selection in last year's team.
Watterson posted a perfect 4.00 GPA in the rigorous major of human physiology and preventative medicine and excelled at captaining for the Trojans with four goals and two assists to earn Honorable Mention All-Crossroads League.
The Parma, Michigan native tallied four goals and five assists for 13 points while starting 35 matches in two seasons for the Trojans.
Watterson's honor gives TU 117 CSC Academic All-American awards in school history, with 115 of those coming since 2010.
The CSC Academic All-District distinction is designed to recognize student-athletes for outstanding achievements, both in the classroom and on the field. In order to receive the honor, an athlete must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 or higher on a 4.0 scale, must have achieved sophomore status academically with at least one full year at their current institution, and must have participated in over half of the team's competitions as a key contributor during the current season. Each University is limited to nominating six players for the award.
Student-athletes are nominated for the award by their institution's Sports Information Department and receive CSC Academic All-District honors if they meet the qualifications.
