Guarin Named to All-Crossroads League Team
HARTFORD CITY, Ind. – Senior Carlos Guarin of Taylor men's tennis has been named to the All-Crossroads League team, as recently announced by the league office.
Guarin hails from Bogota, Columbia and transferred to Taylor from Division II Shaw University in North Carolina, beginning participation in NAIA competition with the Trojans in the fall of 2012.
Guarin played at the top spot in both singles and doubles for the Trojans in 2014, for what was once again a very competitive and challenging league schedule. At No. 1 singles, Guarin posted a 2-6 mark in Crossroads League regular season play while also advancing past his opening round match at the ITA Regional Tournament.
In doubles action, Guarin teamed up with sophomore Juan Ramirez at the top flight and finished 4-4 overall in Crossroads regular season play, 7-11 overall. The duo also advanced to the quarterfinal in the ITA Regional Tournament before falling to the top-seed and eventual tournament champions from Northwestern Ohio. The run by Guarin and Ramirez was highlighted by a win over Jose Marvel and Daniel Sanchez of Grace in a tiebreaker.
Taylor finished sixth in the Crossroads League standings, finishing with an overall record for the season of 3-10.
The All-Crossroads League team consists of twelve players, with the Coach of the Year honor being awarded to Steve Mackell of Marian.
