Osswald Posts Triple-Double in Lopsided Win at Home
UPLAND, Ind. – On a night that was marked by a plethora of individual career-highs, the Taylor women's basketball team (7-4) defeated Calumet College of Saint Joseph (0-8) by a final score of 70-28, which marked the lowest opponent point total in Taylor women's basketball history since TU defeated Earlham 95-14 in 1977.
Among the Trojans to post career performances was sophomore guard, Jillian Osswald, who scratched into the scorebook Taylor's first triple-double in at least two decades.
Osswald, a native of Arcadia, Indiana, finished with 12 points, 16 rebounds, 10 assists, and four steals, all the while commanding the flow of the game for much of the night.
In the first quarter alone, Osswald totaled six points, five boards, and four assists, leading the Trojans to a 22-7 first-quarter advantage. Throughout the first period of play, freshman, Quinn Kelly and Kacey Ott, consistently served as the beneficiaries of Osswald's orchestrating, as the duo combined for 14 first-quarter points.
Kelly and Ott each achieved season-high numbers by night's end, as Kelly combined 14 points and 13 rebounds while Ott placed in tandem 18 points and 14 boards, each securing their first collegiate double-doubles.
Maycee Woods, meanwhile, posted a game-high, career-best point total of 19 on five made three-pointers, while snagging a career-best seven rebounds as well. Woods notched 10 of her points in the second quarter alone, throughout which TU outscored Calumet 26-5 while shooting 61.1 percent from the floor.
Ott shot a perfect three-for-three from the floor in the second frame en route to an 8-13 final shooting performance. Meanwhile, the freshman forward from Slinger, Wisconsin, secured her double-double with six fourth-quarter rebounds, boosting her game total to 14 and just two shy of Osswald for the team lead.
Though one short of double-digits, sophomore guard, Kendall Wayne, gathered a career-best nine rebounds, alongside four points and five assists.
All in all, Taylor racked up 62 team rebounds, which marked the most in a game for the Trojans this season. Meanwhile, the offensive flow continued to unfold smoothly, as Taylor reached 20-or-more team assists for the fourth-consecutive game.
Freshman forward from Silver Lake, Indiana, Ainsley West, experienced the first action of her collegiate career, totaling three points, three rebounds, and a pair of assists in 21 minutes of play.
While Wayne, Ott, Osswald, Woods, and Kelly each recorded their first collegiate starts, the typical TU starting-five experienced a night of rest, gearing up for a big conference matchup with RV Grace this weekend.
Taylor (7-4, 2-2 CL) and RV Grace (8-1, 4-0) are set to square off inside Odle Arena on Saturday, December 10, at 1:00 pm.
