Trojans Take Third, Defeat Pair of Ranked Teams
YORKTOWN, Ind. – Led by fifth-year senior Nicole Jung, the 18th-ranked Taylor women's golf team notched a third place finish at The Players Club Invitational on Saturday.
The Trojans carded a season-high team score of 318 amid blustery conditions at the 5,963-yard, par-72 layout of The Players Club at Woodland Trails. Jung paced the Trojans over the weekend, earning a spot on the all-tournament team with a tie for fourth place at 152, tallying rounds of 73-79.
Freshman Sabrina Langerak earned her second straight top-10 finish, firing rounds of 75 and 80 to finish in eighth place at 155.
Ellie Beavins, another of the trio of freshmen in the line-up for the Trojans, finished in a tie for 15th place at 159 (78-81) while freshman Ellie Karst led the way for Taylor during the final round with a 78 to climb the leaderboard en route to a tie for 17th place at 160 (82-78). Junior Kailey Behrens rounded out the scoring for the Trojans with a 171 (87-84).
Taylor also received solid play from its reserves with sophomore Elizabeth Kemper finishing T-27 at 162 (82-80) while fellow sophomore Kirsten Schrock tallied a 169 (80-89) and freshman Alyssa Schmidt managed rounds of 88-96.
The Trojans finished 17 shots back of the tournament champions, No. 2 Dalton State (294-315) while No. 11 Indiana Wesleyan edged Taylor by 11 shots (300-315). The Trojans finished ahead of No. 17 Lindsey Wilson (317-316) and No. 21 Cumberlands (KY) (318-323).
The Trojans will return to action on Sept. 20-21 when TU competes again at The Players Club at Woodland Trails in the Cardinal Classic, an NCAA Division I event hosted by Ball State.
