Taylor Takes on No. 23 Bethel in CL Opener
UPLAND, Ind. – Taylor dropped a 7-0 decision to No. 23 Bethel in the Crossroads League opener for both teams Saturday afternoon at the Taylor Tennis Complex.
The Trojans (4-7, 0-1 CL) challenged in doubles against a Pilots (3-0, 1-0 CL) lineup that featured the 32nd-ranked tandem of Szilvi Ferenczy and Paola Lameda at the top flight. Maddy Fuqua and Anna Stone competed at No. 1 in a 6-2 loss, while Ellie Schaufelberger and Delaney Dahl fell 6-1 at No. 2.
Evy Danemayer and Gracie Frazier rounded out doubles play at No. 3 in a 6-0 result as Bethel took the doubles point.
Fuqua provided Taylor's strongest showing of the day at No. 1 singles, taking the opening set 6-3 from Olessya Krot before Krot rallied to claim the second and third sets 6-0, 6-2. Jillian Darby followed a similar path at No. 2 singles, winning her first set 6-4 against Lameda before falling 6-2, 6-0 in the final two sets.
Schaufelberger fell 6-1, 6-1 to No. 75 Daniela Pineros at No. 3 singles, and Danemayer dropped a 6-2, 6-2 decision to Sandy Sharaf at No. 4.
Stone and Dahl competed at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively, as the Trojans fell in straight sets across the lower flights.
Taylor returns to action Tuesday when it hosts No. 17 Grace at 3:00 p.m.
