Taylor Closes Out Dual Match at Huntington
HUNTINGTON, Ind. – The Taylor University women's tennis team completed its rain-suspended Crossroads League road match at Huntington on Friday morning, dropping a 5-0 decision to the Foresters in a contest played until the clinching point.
The dual match, originally halted Tuesday due to inclement weather, resumed at 10 a.m. Huntington (11-11, 5-3 CL) claimed the doubles point and the first four singles flights to reach the clinching threshold.
The Foresters swept all three doubles. Isabella Herrera and Yariange Bello topped Maddy Fuqua and Anna Stone 6-3 at the top flight, while Coby Sander and Ashley Bucur posted a 6-4 win over Ellie Schaufelberger and Delaney Dahl at the No. 2 slot. Addison Mast and Tiziana Rizzato closed the point with a 6-1 decision over Evy Danemayer and Gracie Frazier at No. 3 doubles.
In singles, Herrera defeated Fuqua 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1, Mast followed with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Schaufelberger at No. 3, and Bucur claimed the No. 4 match 6-3, 6-0 against Danemayer. At No. 2, Bello had built a 6-2, 5-1 advantage when Jillian Darby retired from the match. Play was halted in the final two flights once the team result was decided, with Rizzato leading Stone 5-0 in the opening set at No. 5 singles.
Taylor (6-12, 2-6 CL) returns to action Saturday as the Trojans host No. 12 Marian indoors at First Serve Muncie.
