Error-Prone Trojans Drop Road Match Against Grace
WINONA LAKE, Ind. – Taylor struggled at the net, piling up 26 errors in a three-set defeat on the road against Grace (13-11, 6-6 CL) on Wednesday night.
The purple and gray had eight or more errors in each set and hit under .080 in a humbling loss in Crossroads League play.
Taylor got behind the eight ball early and could never recover in the opening set as Grace hit .238 and benefitted from eight attacking errors and a paltry .027 hitting percent from the road squad.
After falling behind 3-0 in the second, the Trojans responded with the six-straight points and 11 of the next 12 for a commanding 11-4 advantage. Reagan Salzbrenner was brilliant during that stretch with a pair of kills and blocks. The senior led the Trojans with eight kills and added three blocks in a solid showing from the right side hitter.
The Lancers roared back with six consecutive points of their own and the CL rivals battled in a tight match the rest of the way.
TU had a pair of set points turned away before Grace scored the final three points to take the second set 28-26 and hold a commanding 2-0 lead.
Grace controlled the final set, grabbing an early 12-6 lead and never trailing in another 25-18 win to earn the sweep.
Reagan Kleiman continued her recent stretch of good play on the outside, hammering down seven kills while Margo Hernandez had a double-double with 12 assists and 15 digs in a strong outing for the transfer.
No. 20 Taylor (16-8, 7-5 CL) continues Crossroads League action on the road with a matchup against RV Huntington (20-5, 8-4 CL) on Saturday, October 18, beginning at 1:00 pm.
