Frey Highlights Six Trojans Recognized in Crossroads League Awards

JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League Announced its Women's Volleyball Awards Monday afternoon, and RV Taylor had six athletes recognized.
Ellie Frey headlined the awards for the Trojans, being named First-Team All-Crossroads League an incredible debut season at TU after transferring from Grand Canyon University. Frey led the CL with 4.37 kills per set and 489 total kills, while also producing the most digs per set by a non-libero in the league at 3.30. Frey's debut set the tone for the incredible season producing 24 kills and 21 digs in a five-set victory over Keiser. The outstanding outside hitter notched 20 double doubles with kills and digs while hitting .242. Frey was terrific behind the service line as well, firing a team-high 36 aces against just 12 errors, one of two players across the NAIA to have 35 or more aces and 12 or less errors.
Daya Vestal was named Second-Team All-Crossroads League after stepping into a starting role to begin the season. The dynamic middle hit .339, the third best mark in the CL while piling up 233 kills for 2.08 kills per set. Vestal was one of three trojans to average 0.89 blocks per set or more, leading TU to 2.22 blocks per set, second best in the CL.
A trio of Trojans were named Honorable Mention All-Crossroads League, with McKaylah Flagle, Lindsay Springer, and Margo Hernandez each earning the nod.
Flagle picked up her fourth all-league honor after producing 4.57 digs per set and 512 total digs as the libero for TU. The New Palestine, Indiana native delivered a terrific final year in Purple and Grey, becoming the eighth Trojan in program history to surpass 2,000 career digs. Flagle is also third in program history with a career average of 4.17 digs per set and seventh with 2,025 digs as an outstanding defensive specialist. Flagle impressed at the service line tallying a career-high 29 aces against a career-low 18 errors. The senior also handed out a career-high 100 assists, the third-most on the team.
Springer notched her third all-league award and thrived in a new two-setter system for Taylor. The Bluffton, Indiana native averaged 4.93 assists per set and sits one assist shy of 3,000 at TU. Springer also added 2.10 digs per set and 26 aces while orchestrating an offense which had 12.96 kills per set and hit .199, marks which ranked second and third in the CL.
Hernandez was wonderful serving as the other setter in the two-setter system after transferring in from South Alabama University. The Fisher, Indiana native came back closer to home and led TU with 5.43 assists per set while averaging 2.25 digs per set. A natural leader on the court was instrumental in TU's terrific attack while serving up the second-most aces on the team with 33.
The final Trojan to earn an accolade was Ruth Anderson, who was named to the Crossroads League All-Freshman Team. Anderson came on strong to end the season after being inserted into the starting lineup. The Newark, Ohio native led the team with 0.92 blocks per set and had 27 across a three-game stretch, which saw her earn both the Crossroads League and NAIA Defensive player of the Week award. Anderson added 1.85 kills per set and hit .285 to round out a fantastic freshman season.
