TU's Berends Earns Second National Runner-of-Week Honor
KANSAS CITY – Alex Berends was selected as the NAIA National Female Runner of the Week on Wednesday, following her record-setting performance in TU's first race of the season. The honor is the second national weekly award for Berends.
Berends also claimed Crossroads League Female Runner-of-the-Week recognition on Monday on the strength of a first-place finish and a time of 17:50.6 at the Indiana Wesleyan Invite on September 11. The time was good for a new course record and was just one second shy of TU's all-time program record.
Berends now boasts six Crossroads League and two NAIA National Runner-of-the-Week nods in six regular season races. The All-American sophomore has won five of those events and owns a personal regular season win-loss record of 1,155-2.
Berends and the No. 8 Trojans (9-0) will be back in action on Friday, September 18 at the Indiana Intercollegiate in Terre Haute, Indiana.
