INDIANAPOLIS – The Crossroads League selected TU's Alex Berends for its Female Runner of the Week on Monday, two days after the sophomore led all non-NCAA Division I runners at the 33-team Greater Louisville Classic.
Berends cracked the 18-minute barrier for the fourth time in her last six races, finishing as the only non-Division I athlete in the top-28 in the field of 284 racers from the NCAA Division I, II, III and NAIA levels. The time of 17:58.94 put Berends sixth overall and first among all non-Division I competitors.
The performance of Berends helped the No. 6 Trojans (53-6) finish fifth overall and first among all non-Division I teams at the meet.
Berends has now won seven Crossroads League Runner-of-the-Week honors in eight regular season opportunities, including two awards during the 2015 season.
Berends and the Trojans will hit the course once again on Friday at 5:00 pm in the Bethel Invite.
