UPLAND, Ind. – Taylor University's Brian Moore, Rob Fox and Tanner Watson were each recently named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District II College Division Team for baseball, as voted on and announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
The award is designed to recognize student-athletes for outstanding achievements in the classroom, as well as on the court or field of play. In order to be eligible for the honor, an athlete must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.30 or higher on a 4.0 scale, have reached sophomore status academically and have participated in over half of the team's competitions as a key contributor during the current season.
Moore was named First-Team Academic All-District II for the first time, boasting a 3.43 cumulative grade-point average in accounting. The Monticello, Indiana native has started all 57 games for Taylor, ranking No. 21 in the NAIA and leading all Crossroads League players with 29 stolen bases. The senior shortstop and leadoff man also enters the NAIA National Tournament with a league-best 56 runs scored and a .333 batting average.
Fox also garnered First-Team Academic All-District II honors for the first time in his career, with a 3.97 GPA in accounting as one of only two sophomores to make the list. The Muncie, Indiana native owns a 2-0 record with one save and a 0.98 earned-run average out of the bullpen for the Trojans. The righty reliever boasts the lowest ERA and batting average against (.151) in the CL through the end of the league tournament.
Watson joined Fox as the lone sophomores to be named First-Team Academic All-District II in their first year of eligibility for the recognition, with a 3.75 GPA in finance. The Granger, Indiana native and strong-armed right fielder picked up eight outfield assists during the regular season, while hitting .316 with a .424 on-base percentage and 45 runs scored prior to playing in the NAIA National Tournament on May 17 through May 20.
Taylor University claimed three of the 10 available spots on the Academic All-District II Team, joining Trinity Christian and Robert Morris as the only schools with multiple selections from the district which consists of institutions from Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana and Tennessee.
The TU baseball program has now received multiple CoSIDA Academic All-District awards in six-straight years, piling up 15 such honors during that time.
Moore, Fox and Watson boost Taylor University's total number of student-athletes to receive Academic All-District honors during the 2015-2016 year to 15, with five advancing to earn CoSIDA Academic All-America honors. The trio will look to increase that tally, when the Academic All-America Team is announced on May 31.
