AVON, Ohio – Justin Pettit was selected as the Crossroads League Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday. The weekly award was the first for Pettit, helping Taylor to a league-best 34 on the year.
The North Vernon, Indiana native began the week with a crucial win over Huntington. Pettit started on the mound for the Trojans, tossing five innings and allowing just one unearned run and two hits.
Strong play continued for the 6-3 junior, as he offered 3.2 innings on Saturday against Grace. Through the first two frames, Pettit posted five strikeouts, finishing with seven on the afternoon and 10 for the week.
Pettit shut down opposing offenses throughout both outings with zero earned runs, a .129 opponents' batting average and a 1.22 walks and hit per inning.
The righty and the rest of the Taylor pitching staff have been dominant in 2019, ranking second in the NAIA with a 1.96 earned-run average and a .174 opponents' batting average.
Pettit and the Trojans will return to action on Tuesday with a non-conference doubleheader against Cincinnati-Clermont (7-5) at 4:00 pm at Winterholter Field.
