AVON, Ohio – After a brilliant performance on the mound against Mount Vernon Nazarene, Luke Shively was selected as the Crossroads League Pitcher-of-the-Week for the second time this season.
The junior righty tossed a nine-inning, complete game shutout in No. 20 Taylor's 1-0 victory over the Cougars, allowing only three hits and one walk without letting a runner advance past second base. Shively closed out the contest in dominant fashion, retiring the final 10 batters he faced.
The Mishawaka, Indiana native has been a key cog in the Trojans' stout rotation, compiling a 4-0 record in seven appearances. Over 37.1 innings pitched, Shively has allowed just 14 hits and eight earned runs while striking out 38 batters. Additionally, Shively has compiled a sparkling .110 opposing batting average and a 1.93 earned run average.
Shively's second Crossroads League Pitcher-of-the-Week honor gives Taylor its 21st weekly award this year.
At the conclusion of its series against RV Huntington, No. 20 Taylor (24-7, 13-1 CL) will return home to Winterholter Field on Friday to face off against Grace (9-16, 6-10 CL) in the first two games of a four-game set. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
