JACKSON, Mich. – The Crossroads League announced its yearly awards, with a pair of Trojans recognized for their terrific seasons.
Pete Combs was named a First-Team All-Crossroads League member after averaging 15.2 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game, while shooting an efficient 63.2 percent from the field and 45.7 percent from beyond the arc. The junior forward was second in the CL in field goal percentage and 34th in the NAIA, while hitting eight more threes than anyone in the top-59.
Combs anchored a frontcourt that ranked in the top-53 in the NAIA in both rebounding margin and field goal percentage. The improvement down low was vital to team success in a competitive Crossroads League campaign.
Izaiah Day collected Second-Team All-Crossroads League honors as he seamlessly transitioned into the focal point of the offense as a junior. Day shot an electric 42.3 percent from three-point land, the third best mark in the CL, while making 88 triples, the most in the CL and 14th-most in the NAIA. Day led TU with 16.2 points and added 4.4 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 1.1 steals per game.
The sharpshooting junior paced the Taylor attack from the outside, where they finished at 37.5 percent, the 24th-best mark in the NAIA this season. Day and Combs also were pivotal in Taylor ranking 13th in the NAIA with 18.0 assists per game.
The junior duo excelled as each stepped into a starting role this season, helping lead Taylor to a 19-10 record. The Trojans collected five more wins than a season ago and tallied the most wins since finishing 21-12 in the 2016-17 season.
Taylor (19-10, 11-7 CL) will find out if it made the NAIA National Tournament on Thursday, March 5th during the NAIA Selection show on YouTube.
