Nisbet and Williams Recognized with Crossroads Awards
Crossroads Release I Taylor Athletic Honors Page
HARTFORD CITY, Ind. – Following a huge 4-1 win over Spring Arbor on Saturday, Lewis Nisbet and Michael Williams of Taylor men's soccer each took home Crossroads League Player of the Week honors.
Nisbet earned the Offensive Player of the Week by scoring two goals against the Cougars. The freshman forward from Champaign, Illinois made his presence felt and was excellent throughout the contest, playing a part in every Taylor goal. Nisbet fired a shot off the goalkeeper and the post before fellow freshman Sam Hardy cleaned it up to open the scoring. Nisbet then scored in the 24th minute, taking a pass from Danny Cawley and sending a one-touch shot into the near post netting.
In the second half with Taylor holding a one goal advantage, Nisbet put pressure on the SAU defense before being fouled in the box, creating Tim Daniels' opportunity to score on a penalty kick that put the Trojans up 3-1. Nisbet then rounded out the scoring in the 85th minute, taking a pass from Giovanny Guthro and sliding a right-footed attempt into the lower far post corner. Nisbet now has six goals and an assist for what has been a very well balanced Taylor attack. The Trojans are averaging 2.40 goals-per-game.
Williams, a junior goalkeeper from Arlington Heights, Illinois, earned the Defensive Player of the Week after allowing just two goals in two games as Taylor improved to 6-1 in Crossroads play. Williams made one save in the 3-1 win over Huntington and four saves in the critical 4-1 win over Spring Arbor. Williams currently holds the third-lowest goals-against-average in the league at 1.08.
The two join teammate Caleb Bouchier on the list of Trojans to have earned Crossroads League weekly recognition during the 2014 season.
