Second-Half Surge Lifts Taylor Past Goshen 3-1
UPLAND, Ind. – Taylor scored twice in a five-minute span to secure its first league win of the season, defeating Goshen 3-1 at Turner Stadium on Wednesday night.
The victory gave Taylor (7-3-1, 1-1-1 CL) its first Crossroads League win under head coach Parker Aaron and ended a six-game home winless streak (0-4-2) in conference play, dating back to 2023.
Justin Devlin converted a 25th-minute penalty to give Taylor a 1-0 halftime lead, his third goal of the season. The Trojans extended their advantage in the 72nd minute when Carlos Sanabria scored his first goal of the year.
Goshen (6-2-3, 0-1-2 CL) pulled within 2-1 moments later, but Matt Yoder answered less than a minute after that, with another penalty conversion — his first goal of the season to restore the two-goal cushion.
Goalkeeper Connor Shaw made six saves to help Taylor weather several momentum swings, including an early second-half threat from the Maple Leafs. Shaw made a sliding stop in the box on Goshen's opening possession after halftime, then watched a header sail wide a minute later.
The visitors held edges in total shots (14-8) and corners (6-1), though both teams finished with seven shots on target.
Devlin nearly doubled the lead in the 37th minute when Yoder drew a yellow card just outside the box, but Goshen keeper Gabriel Viau stopped the ensuing set play.
Both teams traded chances throughout the second half, with Tadé Adeyemi nearly scoring on a breakaway. The Trojans' speed ultimately proved decisive in creating space and pressure which led to the two second-half goals.
Goshen mounted a late push with two corners and a pair of shots in the final minutes, but Taylor's defense held firm.
TU will return to action Saturday night when it hosts RV Spring Arbor at 7 p.m. inside Turner Stadium.
