Taylor Handles IU Columbus 87-62 for Fourth Straight Victory
COLUMBUS, Ind. – Kaycie Warfel produced her third straight 30-point outing to lead Taylor past IU Columbus 87-62 on Saturday afternoon inside Circle K Fieldhouse.
With the victory, TU remains unbeaten at 4-0 which marks the program's best start through four games since the 2019-20 campaign. The fast start has featured the Trojans scoring 92 points per contest while outpacing opponents by an average margin of 18.2 points.
Warfel, the reigning Crossroads League Offensive & Defensive Player of the Week, continued her early-season dominance and finished with 37 points on 12-of-18 shooting from the field, while knocking down 11 of 12 attempts at the free-throw line. She registered 18 points in the third quarter alone. The freshman guard is averaging 34.3 points through the early going of the season, with 37, 38 and 37 over the previous three contests.
Celina Blount logged her third double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds, continuing her steady presence around the paint. Madi Allen also resumed her fast start to her college career, reaching double figures in the scoring column for the fourth consecutive outing with 11 points.
Whitney Warfel added seven points off the bench along with Emma Ancelet who contributed six points and seven boards. The Trojans' bench outscored the Crimson Pride reserves 18-7, and the Trojans grabbed a 40-24 advantage on the glass. TU finished the contest shooting 45 percent overall, while overcoming a down performance from three-point range by drilling 26 of 31 attempts (84%) at the charity stripe.
After weathering a late second-quarter run which pulled the Crimson Pride to within four at halftime, the Trojans came out firing on all cylinders after the break with an impressive 15-0 run of their own and never looked back. Kaycie Warfel accounted for 11 points during the momentum shift, and 16 of TU's first 20 points in the third quarter.
The Trojans outscored the Crimson Pride by 20 points combined over the final two periods, including a 27-15 margin in the third to take command of the contest. TU finished strong by limiting the hosts to just 10 points in the fourth period.
TU (4-0) will return to action next Saturday, Nov. 15, when it travels to Trinity Christian (0-3).
