RV Taylor Rolls to 10th Consecutive Win, Tops Goshen at Home
UPLAND, Ind. – RV Taylor (10-0, 4-0 CL) extended its win streak to double digits with its 10th consecutive victory, as the Trojans defeated Goshen (1-10, 0-4 CL) 74-60 inside Odle Arena. The early season run continues as the best start for the Trojans since the 2019-20 campaign.
TU has now limited its opponent to under 70 points in four straight games, and six of the previous seven outings. The last time the Trojans held four straight opponents under 70 points occurred during the 2022-23 season.
Kaycie Warfel led with a game-high 27 points and eight rebounds, along with Celina Blount who posted her fifth double-double with 16 points and 12 boards. Quinn Kelly grabbed 11 rebounds with eight points, while Whitney Warfel added nine points and five boards off the bench. Emma Fohl handed out a team-high five assists.
TU dominated the glass with a 56-34 advantage on the boards, including 18 offensive rebounds that led to 15 second-chance points. Kelly delivered a team-high six offensive boards The strong rebounding performance helped the Trojans overcome 20 turnovers.
The first quarter saw four lead changes as the visiting Maple Leafs led 10-9 at the six-minute mark.
Then, an old-fashioned three-point play by Kaycie Warfel sparked the home side which began a 12-3 run for the Trojans, who never trailed again. The freshman guard tallied 18 points in the opening frame, including 10 of the team's first 12 points in the contest.
TU led 27-21 after one quarter while Goshen hung around and stayed within single digits until halftime. The Trojans entered the halftime break with an eight-point lead, 45-37.
A strong defensive effort in the third quarter allowed the Trojans to pull ahead.
TU came out of the break with a 12-2 run which featured five points from Blount. The Trojans closed out the third period by outscoring Goshen 16-6 to build a comfortable 18-point cushion with a 61-43 lead.
TU limited the Maple Leafs to 3-of-16 (18.8%) shooting in the third stanza, while Ava Egolf tallied six of her team-high 16 points for Goshen.
With 8:56 remaining in the game, Whitney Warfel gave the Trojans their largest lead of the night when her pair of free throws made it a 20-point lead at 63-43.
Overall, TU shot an even 40-percent clip from the field while Goshen finished shooting 33.8 percent. Both teams registered 26-percent shooting from three-point range. The Trojans knocked down 17 of 23 from the free-throw line.
Egolf led three players in double figures for the Maple Leafs, along with Paulecia Isom with 13 points and Zy'Ann Phinezy with 10.
TU will return to action Wednesday for a non-league game against IU East. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Odle Arena.
