Massey’s Second Goal in Two Games Lifts Taylor Past Georgetown
UPLAND, Ind. – Campbell Massey scored her second goal in two games to lift the Taylor University women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Georgetown College on Saturday in the Trojans' home opener at Turner Stadium.
TU (2-0-0) has recorded back-to-back wins to start the season for the sixth time in seven years. The Trojans also improved to 29-3-3 in home non-conference games since 2016.
Massey netted the game-winner in the 10th minute, finding the back of the net early off an assist from Eliza Luttrell, as the Trojans adjusted to a more deliberate style of play. It was Massey's fifth career goal and the second time in her career that she scored in two straight outings.
TU totaled 22 shots overall while surrendering only three. Luttrell, Brooke Cimini and Millie Jones each led TU with three shot attempts, while six different players registered a shot on goal.
TU had several additional scoring chances throughout the match, but Georgetown's (0-1-0) Olivia York held her own between the posts in her first career start. The junior goalkeeper finished with five saves, including four in the second half, as the Trojans applied pressure with a 14-1 shot advantage and five corners after the halftime break.
Brianna Rawlings posted one save, which came midway through the opening stanza, as the Taylor goalkeeper recorded her fifth career clean sheet and second win this season.
The Trojans continue non-conference play with Wednesday's soccer doubleheader against Oakland City (1-0-0) at Turner Stadium. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. for the women's match, followed shortly after by the men's contest.
Looking ahead, the TU women's squad will close out the homestand on Wednesday, Sept. 3 with a 4 p.m. matchup against Trinity Christian.
