McQuade, Luttrell Spark No. 16 Taylor to 4-0 Win over Saint Francis
UPLAND, Ind. – Leah McQuade and Eliza Luttrell struck early, and No. 16 Taylor never looked back in a 4-0 rout of Saint Francis on Wednesday night inside Turner Stadium.
With its ninth shutout of the season, TU improved to 11-2-1 (3-2-1 CL) and picked up three points in the league table. The Trojans sit fifth in the standings at 10 points, just two behind No. 17 Grace and three behind No. 13 Spring Arbor.
McQuade opened the scoring less than two minutes in, heading home Shalyn Hussey's service from the right wide area for her seventh goal of the season. Five minutes later, Luttrell doubled the advantage for a 2-0 lead when Campbell Massey redirected a corner kick attempt that Luttrell finished from close range for her 10th goal of the campaign.
The Trojans dominated possession throughout, outshooting the Cougars 26-3 while forcing Saint Francis goalkeeper Rachel Bova into six saves across the opening 45 minutes. The Trojans closed the night with 10 shots placed on target. Kiana Siefert hit the post in the fifth minute as TU pressured with several quality chances before carrying the two-goal cushion into halftime.
TU extended its lead six minutes into the second half when Siefert capitalized on a rebound from Luttrell's shot, giving the Purple & Gray a 3-0 advantage. Siefert tied her career high with four points in the contest on two assists and her fourth goal of the season. It marked her second multi-assist outing of the season. Meanwhile, Luttrell tallied her fourth outing with at least one goal and one assist.
Lydia Johnson capped the scoring in the 67th minute, striking a left-footed shot from the center of the box into the upper left corner for her seventh goal of the year.
