Four Second-Half Goals Power No. 16 Taylor Past Huntington, 4-1
HUNTINGTON, Ind. – No. 16 Taylor women's soccer exploded for four goals in less than 10 minutes to erase a halftime deficit and cruise past Huntington 4-1 on Saturday evening at King Stadium. The Trojans moved to 13-2-1 overall and 5-2-1 in Crossroads League play with their third consecutive victory and seventh win in eight road matches this season.
Trailing 1-0 at the intermission, TU tallied four unanswered goals between the 62nd and 70th minutes to seize control. Four different players found the back of the net during the decisive stretch as the Trojans dominated possession and attacked relentlessly.
Millie Jones leveled the match in the 62nd minute with an assist from Kiana Siefert for her second goal of the season. Less than two minutes later, Sydney Reddy broke through with the game-winner on an unassisted strike for her second goal of the campaign and first career game-winning tally. Reddy generated a team-high three shots on goal.
The scoring barrage continued as Eliza Luttrell extended the advantage to 3-1 in the 66th minute with her team-high 13th goal of the season. Siefert capped the flurry in the 70th minute, assisted by Libby Thomas, for her fifth tally of the year as TU completely shifted the momentum.
Huntington (7-9-0, 2-7-0 CL) grabbed the early advantage when Sophie Shepherd converted in the 36th minute off an assist from Jada Mia Lee to give the Foresters a 1-0 halftime lead. The goal marked only the second surrendered by TU in the first half this season and just the sixth conceded overall by the stingy Trojans defense.
TU controlled the tempo throughout most of the opening period but couldn't find the breakthrough despite generating five shots and five corner kicks. The second half belonged entirely to TU as the Trojans dominated the final 45 minutes, outshooting Huntington 14-3 after the break.
Thomas was active throughout, recording an assist while generating four shots and creating numerous opportunities. Morgan Fletemeyer added three shots, including one saved in the 11th minute.
TU finished with a 19-5 shot advantage and a commanding 9-2 edge in corner kicks. Goalkeeper Brianna Rawlings made two saves between the posts for the Trojans.
The victory marks the 13th of the season for TU, tying the second-most wins in a single campaign under head coach Scott Stan alongside the 2012 and 2022 seasons.
TU will close the regular season Wednesday with a crucial showdown at No. 17 Grace (13-2-2, 6-2-0 CL), who remains undefeated on its home pitch. A Trojans victory would lift TU into third place in the CL table.
