SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – No. 17 Taylor women's soccer came up just short Wednesday evening as No. 21 Spring Arbor advanced in penalty kicks after the two sides played to a scoreless draw in the Crossroads League Tournament Quarterfinals. The Trojans will await word on an at-large bid to the NAIA National Tournament when the Selection Show airs November 14 at 7 p.m. ET.
Following the tough result, TU (13-2-3) tied its team record for most shutouts recorded in a single season with 11 clean sheets. The Trojans have only conceded seven goals in 18 matches.
Neither team could break through in regulation despite multiple scoring chances.
TU generated 14 shots compared to 11 for Spring Arbor, with both goalkeepers standing tall. The Trojans registered five shots on goal while goalkeeper Brianna Rawlings made four saves against the Cougars' attack.
Kiana Siefert led the Trojans attack with three shots, while Sydney Reddy and Leah McQuade each generated three attempts. Morgan Fletemeyer and Campbell Massey also created opportunities, but Kohler turned away every challenge.
The first overtime period saw Spring Arbor press the attack with three shots, but Rawlings came up with a critical save and the Cougars hit the crossbar twice in the closing moments. The Trojans answered in the second overtime with three shots and a pair of corner kicks from Siefert, but couldn't connect on the golden goal.
In the shootout, Spring Arbor (9-3-6) connected on four of six attempts.
