AUSTIN, Texas – Abbey Brennan and Brooke Studnicki of the Taylor University women's cross country and track and field programs garnered top honors recently, being named CoSIDA Academic All-Americans, as voted on and announced by College Sports Information Directors of America.
The list of CoSIDA First and Second-Team NAIA Women's Cross Country and Track and Field Academic All-Americans contained just 20 student-athletes from around the nation, with 11 individuals being named First-Team and nine more taking a spot on the Second-Team.
Brennan was named a CoSIDA First-Team Academic All-American for the first time in her career, following three-straight CoSIDA Academic All-District selections. The returning senior, who boasts a 3.84 cumulative grade-point average in political science, philosophy and economics, raced to four NAIA All-American honors and five new Taylor program records during the 2021-2022 year. Additionally, Brennan collected six All-Crossroads League honors, four CL Championships and turned in six top-10 showings over a trio of NAIA National Championships, including runner-up finishes in the 4x800-meter relay at each of the indoor and outdoor championships.
Studnicki was named a CoSIDA Second-Team Academic All-American for the first time in her career, after securing a second CoSIDA Academic All-District nod earlier this spring. The junior owns a 3.95 GPA in psychology and picked up two NAIA All-American awards during the 2021-2022 year, after finishing runner-up at the NAIA Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field National Championships in the 4x800-meter relay. Studnicki also picked up six All-CL nods and set two new TU program records.
The honors from Brennan and Studnicki boost TU's total number of CoSIDA Academic All-Americans during the 2021-2022 year to 16, giving the program its highest total in school history.
Taylor now boasts 114 such honors in school history, with 112 coming since 2010. Of those 114, 58 have been First-Team Academic All-Americans.
Brennan's and Studnicki's awards also move the number of CoSIDA Academic All-American awards in the history of Taylor women's cross country and track to 21, with eight of those being First-Team accolades.
The CoSIDA Academic All-District and All-America awards are designed to showcase student-athletes for outstanding achievements in the classroom, as well as on the course or track. In order to be eligible for the honors, an athlete must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.30, must have reached sophomore status academically with at least one full year at their current institution and must have participated in over half of the team's competitions as a key contributor during the current season.
Student-athletes are nominated for the awards by their institution's Sports Information Department and are selected via a vote by CoSIDA members from around the nation. To be eligible for All-American honors, a student-athlete must be selected as a First-Team Academic All-District performer.
