Five Double-Digit Scorers Lead Trojans to Win Over Mid-Atlantic Christian
TAKOMA PARK, Md. – A balanced attack, with five Trojans scoring double figures paced TU to an 85-68 victory over Mid-Atlantic Christian (2-2) on Saturday night.
Taylor held a decisive advantage on the glass, pulling down 44 rebounds compared to 20 for Mid-Atlantic Christian. The ball movement continued to be crisp with 21 assists on 29 field goals.
Taylor jumped out to an early 11-5 lead after a layup by Izaiah Day, who led the Trojans with 16 points and eight rebounds.
Day stayed hot and scored the next six points for the purple and gray as the beginning of an 8-0 run capped by Levin Smith scoring off a Day assist.
Nathan Baker had a strong showing, making all three shots from the field including a pair of triples. The freshman forward scored five of his ten points late in the first to give TU its largest advantage of the opening half at 42-25.
A 15-point lead at the break quickly stretched to 20 after a triple by Anthony McGhee, who scored 12 points and stuffed the stat sheet with seven rebounds, five assists, two steals, and a pair of blocks.
The Mustangs cut the lead back to 15 before a pair of thunderous slams by Smith sparked a 10-1 run capped by a triple by Baker, off an assist by Dylan Deluca, to give TU a 64-40 advantage. The sophomore big man scored 11 points in 17 minutes of action.
Baker returned the favor with an assist to Deluca on the three before Day converted an and-one for TU's largest lead of the game at 70-44.
The Trojans coasted down the stretch as eight players hit a shot from beyond the arc. The final player in double figures was Pete Combs, who poured in ten points and grabbed seven rebounds. Carson Gould continued his strong play, with the freshman notching a game-high five steals, to go with four points and three assists.
Taylor (3-1) travels back to Indiana to take on IU Kokomo (1-2) on the road on Wednesday, November 12th, with tip set for 7:00 pm.
