Taylor Falls 2-0 to Huntington; Eight Trojans Recognized on Senior Day
UPLAND, Ind. – Taylor men's soccer fell 2-0 to visiting Huntington on Saturday evening at Turner Stadium, as the Trojans honored its eight seniors prior to the match.
TU (7-7-2, 1-5-2 CL) controlled possession for stretches and outshot the Foresters 15-9, including an 8-6 advantage in the first half. Justin Devlin led the Trojans attack with three shots on goal and contributed four corner kicks throughout the match. Caleb Van Dop generated three shots on goal, while Carlos Sanabria added three shots.
The Trojans applied early pressure and created several dangerous scoring opportunities.
Giulio Mapessa forced a save from HU keeper Zane Hydock with a solid header off a free kick in the 15th minute
Sanabria tested the goalkeeper with a clean look from the top corner of the box in the 34th minute, but Hydock turned away the attempt.
Noel Calix nearly broke through in the 41st minute, but his shot sailed just over the crossbar, setting up a corner kick opportunity.
Huntington (4-8-4, 2-5-1 CL) absorbed the pressure and struck late in the first half when Henry Heaney converted at the 39th minute to give the Foresters a 1-0 advantage heading into the intermission.
TU continued to press in the second half, generating seven shots after the break. Levi Kelly created several dangerous chances with pressuring runs into the box, but the Trojans were unable to capitalize. TU earned multiple corner kicks and free kick opportunities but couldn't find the breakthrough strike.
Jonathan Ruiz extended Huntington's lead with an unassisted strike in the 82nd minute to put the match out of reach.
Connor Shaw made five saves in goal for TU. Hydock earned the clean sheet with six saves for Huntington.
TU will close out the regular season when it hosts No. 20 Grace on Wednesday night inside Turner Stadium.
