Josh Roth Wins 3,000-Meter National Title

BROOKINGS, S.D. – The Taylor men's track and field team wrapped up the 2020 NAIA Indoor National Championships with impressive performances on Saturday. The Trojans were led by junior Josh Roth who claimed the 3,000-meter National Title.
Josh Roth ran an incredible 3,000-meter race and finished as the NAIA National Champion with a personal-best time of 8:25.70. Roth battled between the front pack throughout the race before taking the lead with three laps to go. The junior held off second place on the final stretch and brought home the first-place finish.
In a competitive 5,000-meter finals, Alex Helmuth claimed 10th place ran a time of 15:20.92.
The action continued with three Trojans competing in field events. Pole vaulters Jon DeHaan and Damon Knowles logged 12th place finishes overall. Knowles cleared 4.55 meters on his first attempt, and DeHaan vaulted over 4.55 meters on his third attempt.
In addition, freshman Sammy Sommers placed 16th in the triple jump. The jumper recorded a solid mark of 14.12 meters on his third attempt in the prelims.
TU ended in 25th place out of 70 teams with a tally of 10 points.
The Trojans will begin their outdoor season on March 27 and 28 at the Emory Invite in Atlanta, Georgia.
