Trojans Take Fifth at Broadmoor Invitational
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Taylor women's golf team slipped to fifth in the team standings after carding a round of 345 on the final day of the Broadmoor Invitational hosted by Marian at Broadmoor Country Club.
Freshman Maddie Thomas collected her second straight top-five finish as the Westlake, Ohio native carded rounds of 79-81 to finish in fifth place in the field of 45 players. Junior Grace Elenbaas tallied the next best score for Taylor on Tuesday with an 86. Her two-day total of 177 (91-86) was good enough for a 21st place finish.
Senior Brittany Pfaff matched her first round score with an 87 on Tuesday to finish with a two-day total of 174 for 20th place. Sophomore Raquel Helton struggled to a 94 on Tuesday but managed to finish in 27th place with a two-day total of 179 (85-94) while fellow sophomore Elizabeth Jackson carded a 91 on Tuesday for a total of 180 (89-91).
Freshman Annie Stimmel added a round of 83 on Tuesday while competing as an individual. Stimmel's two-round total of 177 (94-83) was good enough for 21st place. Fellow freshman Lauren Murphy added a round of 97 on Tuesday also competing as an individual.
Taylor entered Tuesday's final round in a tie for fourth place with St. Xavier (Ill.) but the Trojans slipped to fifth, finishing five shots behind St. Xavier. Cardinal Stritch took home the team title with a score of 649 (326-323), followed by No. 25 Lindsey Wilson at 658 (335-323) and No. 19 Marian at 660 (330-330).
The Trojans will be back in action this weekend when TU travels to Fort Wayne for the Saint Francis Invitational which will be played at Cherry Hill Golf Club on Friday and Cobblestone Golf Club on Saturday.
