Schuitema Tops Field Again with Playoff Win at CL Preview
COLUMBUS, Ind. – Eleanor Schuitema capped her strong fall campaign by winning the individual title at the Crossroads League Fall Preview, as the No. 18 Trojans ended third-of-eight in the team standings.
Schuitema put herself in contention for medalist honors with a second-round score of 72 on Monday and closed with a 74 on Tuesday to finish at 222 over the 54 holes and in a two-way tie with Indiana Wesleyan's Kamryn Williams atop the leaderboard.
Schuitema birdied in the playoff to secure the top spot, sealing her second-straight first-place finish and her third time finishing first or second in four tournaments this fall. Schuitema's 222 also lowered her 18-hole scoring average from the fall to a team-leading, 75.6, and her scores of 72, 74 and 76 at the event gave her seven of TU's top-15 rounds from the fall season.
Shayne Lim matched Schuitema's opening round score of 76, before slipping down the leaderboard with an 83 in Monday's second round. Lim rallied back with a 74 on Tuesday and finished in sixth place at 233.
Hope Haarer and Margarita Garrido placed in 17th and 22nd out of 50 individuals at the event, helping No. 18 Taylor secure a third place team finish.
The Trojans (17-8) posted rounds of 318, 318 and 310 to finish at 946 and just eight strokes back of No. 4 Marian for second in the team standings, while No. 13 IWU ran away from the pack with a 913. RV Grace took fifth in the standings and fourth among CL teams, but finished 54 shots back of TU.
The Crossroads League Fall Preview was the final event on the schedule for No. 18 Taylor during the fall season.
