Thomas Notches Top-10 to Lead Trojans
CARMEL, Ind. – Senior Maddie Thomas grinded out a top-10 finish to lead the Taylor women's golf team at the University of Indianapolis Invitational at Prairie View Golf Club on Tuesday.
Thomas finished the 54-hole event with a three-round total of 230, carding rounds of 80-73-77 on the challenging 6,241-yard, par-72 layout of Prairie View. The Westlake, Ohio, native carded 31 pars and six birdies to earn the top-10 finish in a field that featured several top NCAA Division II players and teams.
Fatigue seemed to catch up with the Trojans as the tournament wore on as TU wrapped up a nine day stretch that included seven rounds of tournament golf. The Trojans tallied a 313 in round one followed by a 318 in round two and a 320 in the final round.
TU's three-round team total of 951 was good enough for third place in the ten team field but well behind a pair of NCAA Division II Top-5 teams in UIndy and Findlay.
Senior Nicole Jung finished in 20th place at 238 (79-79-80) followed by senior Taylor French in 22nd place at 243 (75-86-82). Sophomore Emma Torres finished tied for 25th place at 244 (82-81-81) while senior Annie Stimmel finished in a tie for 41st at 255 (97-85-91).
The Trojans will now enjoy a break before closing out the fall season with two more events at Stonehenge Golf Course in Warsaw, Indiana on Oct. 9-10 and at Purgatory Golf Club in Noblesville, Indiana on October 16-17.
