No. 20 Trojans Roll to Team Crown Behind Garrido's Fourth Title of Year
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Margarita Garrido battled to a one-shot lead over 36 holes at Monday's Kampen-Cosler Invitational for her fourth individual title of the year and helped No. 20 Taylor to its fifth team title.
Garrido shot scores of 81 and 83 for a two-round total of 164 amidst blustery winds that elevated scores throughout the day. Garrido's mark edged a pair of competitors for medalist honors by one stroke.
Shayne Lim notched her fifth top-five performance, carding scores of 81 and 87 to finish in fifth, just four strokes off Garrido's pace.
Eleanor Schuitema and Ellie Beavins finished in sixth and eighth to give the Trojans four finishers inside the top-10. Schuitema came in with a 36-hole total of 171, with Beavins ending at 174.
Sam Lemieux and Hope Haarer also finished inside the top-half of the field, taking 16th and 18th position on the leaderboard.
With four top-10 finishes, No. 20 Taylor cruised to the team title with a two-round total of 677 to easily win the tournament by 20 strokes over RV Bethel. TU's next outing will be the Crossroads League Championships on April 28 and 29.
