Trojans Close Regular Season with Road Draw at No. 16 Grace
WINONA LAKE, Ind. – No. 17 Taylor battled No. 16 Grace to a 1-1 draw on Wednesday night at 1st Source Bank Field. Kiana Siefert's equalizer in the 15th minute earned a point for the Trojans who finished the regular season at 13-2-2 overall and 5-2-2 in Crossroads League play.
With the result, TU will travel to No. 21 Spring Arbor next Wednesday, Nov. 5, at 6:00 pm for the CL Championship quarterfinals in the four-five match. The two teams tied for fourth in the final league standings, with the Cougars holding the head-to-head tiebreaker.
Grace took an early lead on Wednesday night when Ellie Grieser converted in the sixth minute to put the Lancers ahead 1-0. The goal came after TU generated early pressure, including a Siefert shot that struck the crossbar just three minutes into the contest.
However, the Trojans responded quickly. Siefert leveled the score in the 15th minute with an unassisted strike from the top corner of the box that sailed over goalkeeper Ivy Cline and into the back corner for her sixth goal of the season. The equalizer shifted momentum back in TU's favor as both teams settled into a physical, tightly-contested match.
The first half saw even play with each side recording seven shots. TU held a 4-1 advantage in shots on goal as Brianna Rawlings didn't face another shot on target in the opening 45 minutes.
Leah McQuade forced a save from Cline in the 13th minute, while Sydney Reddy tested the Grace goalkeeper with a shot in the 29th minute. Morgan Fletemeyer added two first-half shots as the Trojans pressed for the go-ahead goal.
Rawlings stood tall with four second-half saves to preserve the draw, as Grace raised the intensity in the second half, outshooting TU 9-4 after the intermission.
Fletemeyer finished with three shots for TU, while Siefert added three shots in the attack. Cline made four saves for Grace (13-2-2, 6-2-0 CL), who remain undefeated on their home pitch.
