Taylor Cruises to 7-0 Sweep over Manchester
UPLAND, Ind. – Taylor University's men's tennis team cruised to 7-0 victory over Manchester University on Tuesday at the Taylor Tennis Complex.
TU (2-1) caught early momentum with a sweep of all three doubles matches to earn the first team point of the afternoon. Tyler Lane and Graham Beukelman built a 4-1 lead in the top doubles pairing, before closing out a 6-2 decision. The same score followed in the No. 2 doubles spot, with Garrett Spencer and Joseph Harper grabbing a 4-1 advantage and recording the 6-2 result. At No. 3 doubles, Andrew Roth and Josh Clegg grabbed the 3-2 lead after five games and held on for the 6-4 triumph.
In singles action, the Trojans lineup dominated the Spartans by sweeping all six matches with two-set victories. Lane, Beukelman and Harper claimed the top three singles contests and only dropped one game apiece. Lane and Harper registered 6-0, 6-1 results at No.1 and No. 3 singles, respectively, while Beukelman won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles.
At No. 4 singles, Garrett Spencer held off MU's Andrew Guerre 6-4 in the second set after earning a 6-1 victory in the opening stanza. Josh Dawson and Andrew Roth both secured 6-1, 6-1 decisions at No. 5 and No. 6 singles to round out the lineup.
TU continues the fall portion of its schedule with Saturday's dual match at Saint Francis. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Swinney Park in Fort Wayne.
