Men Take Fourth at Crossroads League Championships
MARION, Ind. – Eleven members of the Taylor men's track and field team earned all-league honors as the Trojans moved into fourth place on the final day of the Crossroads League Championships on Friday.
Sam Lacher was one of three Trojans to collect victories in the Crossroads League Championships as the freshman posted a time of 48.57 to take the top spot in the 400-meter dash.
Junior Matt Hall won 5,000-meter, hitting the automatic standard for the NAIA National Championships with a time of 14:44.49.
Senior Noah Clayton tied for first in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 54.67 and the Trojans also got a second place finish from Tanner Dye who posted a mark of 3:56.80 in the 1,500-meter run.
Brandan Wilchcombe enjoyed a successful day as the senior claimed second place in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.53, hitting the automatic qualifying standard for the NAIA National Championships.
Sophomore Joseph Beamish added a third place finish for TU in the steeplechase with a mark of 9:42.50.
The Trojans also saw strong performances in some field events on Friday with junior Harry Dantona taking second place in the hammer with a mark of 50.49 meters and freshman Mitchell Herrington took third place in the javelin with a toss of 51.30 meters.
TU's relay teams chipped in as well with the 4x100-meter relay team of Dakota Pritt, Austin Goggans Lacher, and Wilchcombe posted a time of 43.33 to claim fourth place and the TU 4x400-meter relay team of Kyle Shelton, Schalk Van Niekerk, Wilchcombe, and Lacher claimed fifth place with a mark of 3:24.02.
Taylor finished the championships with 94 points while Marian took home the team title with 236 points. Bethel was second at 174 followed by Indiana Wesleyan at 154.
The Trojans will be in action again on May 6th when TU travels to Bloomington, Indiana for the Indiana Invitational.
