Lehmann Matches RBI Record with Home Run Against Goshen
Team Stats
GOSHEN, Ind. – Livie Lehmann matched the single-season record for RBI for a Trojan with a two-run home run in the fifth inning of a 5-2 win on Saturday, helping the Trojans to a split against Goshen on the road.
The junior bashed her thirteenth long ball of the season for her 63rd RBI of the year, matching the single-season program record set in 2014 by Lauren Ehle. Lehmann's home run gave Taylor a pair of insurance runs for a 5-2 lead in the fifth.
The game began with the Trojans getting a run in the first and two more in the second on RBI singles by Kaylee Larkin and Madisyn Standridge before Goshen answered with runs in the second and third to cut the lead to one.
Katie Kottlowski (5-5) came in relief in the third and was terrific inside the circle, firing four and two-thirds innings of scoreless ball. The lefty surrendered just a single hit and one walk while fanning a pair to earn the victory.
The Trojans' last-inning misfortunes came back to bite them in their second walk-off loss in a row to begin the day against the Maple Leafs.
Goshen took a big 3-0 lead in the first inning before Taylor responded in the second with three runs of their own. Delaynee McCreary and Claire Duncan reached to begin the frame, and Grace Mullins ripped a clutch two-out single to plate two runs for Taylor. Lehmann came to the plate and launched a double to allow Mullins to cross the plate, and in what turned out to be a key play, Goshen threw out a Trojan at the plate to end the inning.
The Maple Leafs scored in the sixth for a slim one-run advantage, but Delaney Barton slapped a single up the middle to plate Standridge, who began the frame with a single. Barton, who had a game-high three base knocks, was stranded on second, one of seven left on base for Taylor compared to zero for Goshen.
The bottom of the seventh started smoothly before a two-out rally produced a pinch-hit game-winning single for Goshen (18-26, 14-20 CL).
Taylor (29-19, 18-16 CL) concludes the regular season on Monday, April 28, against Saint Francis (26-18, 19-15 CL), with Crossroads League Tournament seeding on the line in a pivotal matchup. First pitch for the doubleheader to determine the all-important four seed is set for 4:00 pm.
