HENDERSON, Ky. – Taylor split a doubleheader against Brescia on Saturday after breaking out for 10 runs in the second game for a run-rule victory.
The Trojans jumped on the Bearcats in the second inning for five runs after three hits and a pair of errors. Ava Everman led off the inning with a double before scoring on a fielding error. A walk preceded another double, this one off the bat of Addison Messer, driving in Bella Browning. A passed ball followed another miscue in field to allow Taylor to build a comfortable 5-0 lead.
Brescia scored an unearned run in the third, but Claire Cullen was fantastic inside the circle, throwing six innings for the victory. The sophomore righty piled up six strikeouts and allowed just two hits and an unearned run in the outing to earn her second victory of the season.
Everman and Messer each had multiple hits along with senior Delaynee McCreary, who belted an RBI triple in the opener along with an RBI single to cap the scoring in the nightcap.
Taylor plated two runs in the fourth before adding three more in the sixth for the 10-1 scoreline and enacting the eight-run rule to end the game early.
Taylor dropped the opener against Brescia 10-2, after taking an early lead in the first. A pair of singles and a walk loaded the bases, and another free pass put the first run on the board. The rally ended quickly with a pair of strikeouts and a lineout to end the inning.
The Bearcats (2-4) scored three in the first inning before answering the Trojans run in the third with another three spot in the third.
A pair of runs in the fourth and fifth ballooned the lead to eight and ended the game on a walk off two-RBI single in the bottom of the fifth.
Taylor (4-4) continues its early season on the road with a pair of doubleheaders scheduled against Georgetown (2-2) beginning Friday, February 27th at 2:00 pm in Georgetown, Kentucky.
