Trojans Dominate in Battle of Top-10 Teams
NOBLESVILLE, Ind. – The 4th-ranked Taylor women's golf team closed the fall portion of its schedule with a resounding victory over a pair of top-10 teams on Saturday.
Senior Nicole Jung led the charge for Taylor, collecting her third victory of the season and propelling TU to a 21-shot victory over No. 10 Indiana Wesleyan. Taylor finished 29 shots clear of No. 6 University of the Cumberlands (KY).
Jung led wire-to-wire in her 12th career victory, tallying scores of 75-74-74 for a 54-hole total of 223 en route to a 6-shot win. The senior from Santa Cruz, Bolivia led the field in par-4 (+7) and par-5 (-2) scoring as well as birdies (6).
The Trojans carded team scores of 314-312-306 as TU navigated the firm, fast, and challenging Purgatory Golf Course with poise on its way to its fourth victory in five events this fall.
In addition to stellar play from Jung a pair of other Trojans earned top-5 finishes with senior Maddie Thomas and senior Taylor French collecting T-4 finishes. Thomas carded rounds of 78-84-74 while French tallied scores of 81-77-78 for a 54-hole total of 236.
Annie Stimmel produced one of the highlights for the week as the senior holed out from 55 yards on her final hole, the par-5 18th, for her first career eagle. Stimmel finished in 11th place with a total of 241 (80-81-80). Junior Emma Torres finished in 20th place at 255 with rounds of 88-80-87 to round out the scoring for the Taylor top five.
Senior Rachel Coers and sophomore Caitlyn Tansey competed as individuals for the Trojans. Tasney earned a 13th place finish with scores of 83-80-80 while Coers finished in 19th place at 253 (84-86-83).
Taylor finished the fall season with four tournament titles in five events and a head-to-head record of 27-2 record, including a 21-0 mark against NAIA teams. The Trojans will return to action in the spring.
