Jung Wins as Trojans Finish Third in Orlando
ORLANDO – Taylor senior Nicole Jung posted her 13th career victory to lead the 4th-ranked Taylor women's golf team to a third place finish at the ChampionsGate Invitational on Tuesday.
Jung capped off a final round 74 with a birdie on her final hole, the par-4 ninth, to tally a two-shot victory with a 54-hole score of 222 (+6). The All-American from Bolivia entered the final round trailing Dalton State's Sydney Hermann by a shot but Jung quickly moved to the top of the leaderboard with a string of pars amid windy conditions during the final round. The victory is Jung's fourth of the season through six events.
Anchored by Jung's performance the Trojans managed a third place finish in the team standings, finishing behind No. 1 Keiser and No. 5 Dalton State.
Senior Maddie Thomas tallied scores of 80-78-77 to collect a 14th place finish. Senior Annie Stimmel was next in 16th place with scores of 80-79-82 while Taylor French was close behind, finishing T-17 with scores of 79-80-83. Senior Rachel Coers and sophomore Emma Torres finished T-33. Torres carded rounds of 82-88-90 while Coers fired 86-87-87.
The Trojans managed team scores of 314-301-316 for a 54-hole tournament total of 940. Keiser fired an impressive team score of 902 (303-298-301) while Dalton State tallied a 916 (301-304-311) to take second place. TU finished ahead of No. 9 Loyola (953) as well as No. 11 Indiana Wesleyan (977).
